The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) on Friday accused the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) of delaying the completion of Satluj Yamuna Link (SYL) canal by raising extraneous issues.
Addressing a rally as part of the INLD and Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) ongoing ‘Jail Bharo’ agitation in Hisar, leader of the Opposition in Haryana Assembly, Abhay Singh Chautala said the BJP governments at the Centre and state have delayed implementation of the Supreme Court (SC) directive for completion of SYL by raising extraneous issues.
The INLD leader said the BJP is offering lame and manufactured excuses to delay the completion of the canal.
Chautala said the BJP government in Haryana has now abandoned Dadupur Nalvi canal and also getting water from Agra canal for the Mewat region. In the absence of these projects besides SYL, Haryana was on the verge of facing unprecedented water crisis, he said.
The INLD also accused the BJP of betraying the farmers by going back on its promise of implementing Swaminathan Commission Report. He assured the gathering that when INLD-BSP alliance was voted to power, the government will not only waive loans of farmers but also implement the Swaminathan Commission report about fixation of minimum support price (MSP).
He also assured that from every family one member will be given a government job and Rs Five lakh given on the occasion of the marriage of a poor family’s daughter. Old age pension would be enhanced to Rs 2500 per month and power bills reduced by half.
INLD’s member of Parliament from Hisar, Dushyant Chautala, too lashed out at the BJP government for depriving the state of water that was already available to it.
He pointed out that out of 1500 cusecs of water that was flowing through the canal has now been reduced to 1100 cusecs because the BJP government at the Centre is more concerned about Rajasthan to which additional 400 cusecs was being given from Haryana’s share.
Dushyant said that because of this decision the 40 villages of Nalwa and Adampur were suffering drought like conditions.
